Each day an adult offers and supervises a bespoke lunchtime space for children needing some additional support for a breadth of reasons. Children can request to attend 'Buddies' and / or teachers can refer them to attend, in response to a particular behavioural, emotional or social need for support.
'Buddies' aims to provide for safe space for children who need it; they can attend with a friend of their choice.
The reasons for attendance might relate to a:
Parent or family member being ill
Bereavement
Child recovering from a medical issue. E.g. a broken limb.
Pupil experiencing accommodation challenges (being made homeless)
Child experiencing friendship challenges
In addition to this, Year 6 prefects are present on the playground to offer additional friendship support by encouraging children's involvement in games and activities.
Buddy Benches
We also offer 'buddy benches' on our playgrounds. These provide a place for children to sit if they need some quiet time and / or signal that they need a friend because they are feeling sad, upset or just need a chat.
