Online safety is very important to us at St John Rigby, and with technology advancing rapidly, we feel it is important to support the knowledge and behaviours that can help pupils to navigate the online world with confidence in the safest way possible. This ensures that even if it is a challenge to stay up to date with the latest technological advances, children have the correct foundations in place to stay safe on the World Wide Web. Not only do we deliver specific online safety lessons in our computing and PSHE curriculum in an age appropriate way, we build online safety into our day across the school. In order to create a partnership with parents on this, we would like to share some information and resources with you that you might find useful to support your child online at home, whether using a device to access an online homework resource,  gaming with friends, or using popular apps.

At home you could try asking your child the following questions as recommended by DfE:

Is this website/ URL/email fake? How do you know?

What does this cookie do and what information am I sharing?

Is this person who they say they are?

Why does someone want me to see/send/believe this?

Why does this person want my personal information?

What is behind this post?

Is this fact or opinion?

Is this too good to be true?
